Overview

Berlin's Epic Ring Tetralogy: A Farewell to Sir Donald Runnicles

Prepare to embark on a mesmerizing journey into the heart of German opera as the Deutsche Oper Berlin presents Richard Wagner's monumental Ring Tetralogie. This extraordinary operatic event is set to be an unforgettable experience, marking the farewell of Music Director Sir Donald Runnicles. Conducting Stefan Herheim's visionary production, Runnicles will lead a world-class cast and orchestra in bringing Wagner's legendary work to life.

Under his masterful baton, this Ring cycle promises a bittersweet thrill as audiences witness the final performances of a conductor whose legacy has shaped Berlin's operatic landscape. The exceptional cast brings together some of today's most distinguished Wagnerian voices: Iain Paterson and Thomas J. Mayer share the role of Wotan, while Annika Schlicht embodies the powerful Fricka. Matthew Newlin portrays the heroic Siegmund, with Elisabeth Teige as both Sieglinde and Brünnhilde.

Trine Møller and Catherine Foster also take on the role of Brünnhilde, ensuring commanding performances across the cycle. Clay Hilley brings his formidable tenor to the role of Siegfried, while Albert Pesendorfer delivers an imposing presence as both Hagen and Fasolt. Michael Samuel brings depth to the tormented Alberich, and Ya-Chung Huang masterfully portrays the cunning Mime. With such an exceptional ensemble, this Ring promises to be a deeply immersive and emotionally charged experience.

To complement this tour, we will stay at the 5-star luxury Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin. Our stay will be enriched by private tours of Berlin's most significant historical sites, world-renowned museums, and galleries. A day trip to Potsdam will add another layer of cultural exploration, allowing us to enter the world of Prussian kings and baroque splendor. As always, our curated gourmet meals, complemented by exquisite wines, will be second to none, ensuring an experience as indulgent as it is artistically profound.

Join us for an unparalleled operatic adventure, a fitting tribute to Sir Donald Runnicles' final Ring in Berlin, and a celebration of Wagner's immortal music in one of the world's great opera capitals.

We've done close to a dozen trips with The Aranis and I think I've seen enough to say it: they make it look easy. They've got the energy and sense of purpose to make it so the pieces all click together at the joints, and the tact to make you think they're having fun doing it, which means you have fun; perhaps they do too. We've got many fond memories of our trips with them and we look forward to more.
